Warner cracks a Deal With Sydney Thunder, Commits To Playing Full Season

Former Australian Cricketer David Warner has signed a deal with Sydney Thunder in the BBL.

Former Australian Opener David Warner has inked a deal with Sydney Thunder for 2 years and has also stated that he will be available to play the entire season of BBL. On the other hand, his former colleague Steve Smith has also signed a contract with the Sydney Sixers, Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey have renewed their contracts with Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers respectively for the 2024-25 season of the BBL.

Warner has now retired from international Cricket, he played just 8 games for Thunder combining the previous 2 editions of BBL. This appearance too came after a gap of 9 years of absence from the league due to his international commitments.

"They are a good bunch of blokes, I really enjoyed my time last year, the team had a culture and environment, this time around I feel we can go a couple of notches better" Warner Stated in Stated in a Thunder release

"David is a popular guy, all around the world, especially in India, the south Asian communities in the Western part of Sydney are all set to get behind him ." Thunder's General Manager Trent Copeland said.
"In David, we get a guy who has had the experience of almost 20 years in T20 Cricket, now that he has retired from international cricket, we can have his services for the entirety of the tournament including the finals". Copeland quipped

However, the Australian regulars will play in the tournament for a limited period as they will leave the tournament to play in the Border Gavaskar Trophy at home on January 7. They will then embark on a tour of Sri Lanka beginning on January 21. The dates will clash with the knockout stages of the BBL.

This means Steve Smith can only play four games for Sydney Sixers, whereas Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne can only play up to 3 games.
