The European Championship in football, taking place in Germany, maybe the last tournament for some of the football stars in the world. These heroes have represented the sport for years, letting generations of people dream and writing their names in the history books.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time top scorer in the Euros (14 goals) and international football, is one of the most outstanding football players ever. Currently 39, the Portuguese forward still plays for his team, but football and its effects on the body cannot be denied. This could be his last hurrah at the Euro 2024.
Germany’s playmaker in midfield, Toni Kroos, has already stated that he will be retiring from the international football scene after Euro 2024. This competition allows him to exit on home ground, and he may add a European championship to his already excellent resume including a World Cup victory.
Another fellow countryman of Kroos, Luka Modric, Real Madrid team-mate, is not far behind in the age aspect. Luka Modric, who is 39 years old this year, has been the playmaker of the Croatian national team for more than ten years.
Despite all these predictions, the evergreen Pepe manages to continue playing at 41 years of age. Still, he continued to play for Portugal; the oldest ever Euros player, skill and tenacity are incomparable. However, with the next Euros four years ahead, Euro 2024 may be his last Euro.
While it has not been officially announced, Euro 2024 could well be the last tournament for Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. The Euro 2020 winner, currently 39, was an ever-present in the Italian defense for many years. Will he achieve another continental title to his already rich career?
