Star Australian Batter Steve Smith has announced his retirement from ODI Cricket effective immediately after Australia's semi-final exit in the Champions Trophy against India. Smith informed his teammates about him quitting the ODI format. The Star Aussie batter will continue to wear the Baggy Green in the Test & T20I game formats.

Smith, who's been a batting mainstay for Australia in the ODI format since the previous decade made his debut as a leg-spinning all-rounder in 2010 against West Indies before transforming himself into a full-time batter.

Smith Says Goodbye To ODI's

Across 170 matches, he amassed 5,800 runs at an average of 43.28, including 12 centuries and 35 fifties, while also claiming 28 wickets.

Smith as a player has won Two ODI World Cups, the 2015 World Cup at home beating Brendon McCullum-led New Zealand in the finals at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG) & the 2023 ODI World Cup beating hosts India in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Smith captained the ODI side from 2015 and led the team on an interim basis in his final match. His batting accolades include Australian Men’s ODI Player of the Year in 2015 and 2021, as well as a spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year in 2015.

"It has been a great journey, Smith stated. There have been some good times on & off the field, winning two World Cups with some of the best people around, made my journey in the format memorable, its been a highlight for me in my ODI Career".
"Now I feel this is a great opportunity for the team looking forward to the 2027 ODI World Cup." I feel this is the right time for me to make way for the younger lot to take the team forward. I'm fully committed to playing test cricket, there is a WTC Final, then a West Indies tour in the Winter before the England series at home", There's plenty of cricket & I think i have it in me to play till that stage.
