The Indian Premier League has been a testament to some high-class batting, classy boundaries to gigantic sixes, and fifties being scored at a faster pace. However, there have been instances when the batters have been forced to curb their natural instincts & play at a lower strike rate. While there have been records of fastest fifties, there have also been records of some of the slowest fifties hit in IPL history. Today we will discuss the slowest fifties hit in the history of the IPL.
The record for the slowest fifty stands with former South African batter JP Duminy scoring his half-century in 55 balls against the Punjab Kings in just the second edition of the league in 2009, when the tournament was shifted to South Africa. The Punjab Kings won the thriller by 3 runs.
Parthiv Patel, known for his aggressive hitting at the top of the order, had an off day with the bat as he was unable to score runs at a fair clip against the Punjab Kings. The match went down to the wire in the super over, where Punjab went on to beat CSK at Chennai.
The Man who lit up the IPL curtain raiser with a brilliant 158 also features in this unwanted record of scoring the slowest fifty in IPL. Chasing a modest total of 135, the Kolkata Knight Riders won the game by 9 wickets.
Former Indian player Robin Uthappa features in the list with fourth fourth-slowest fifty in the IPL. Uthappa achieved this record against the Delhi Daredevils (Now Capitals). The Delhi Daredevils won the game easily by 8 wickets.
Star South African batter Jacques Kallis scored the fifth-slowest fifty against the Delhi Capitals in 2009 in Johannesburg. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to beat the Delhi team.
