Shubman Gill Named Captain As India Announces Squad For Zimbabwe Tour

India has announced their personnel for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe slated to be held in July. India have made wholesome changes to their T20 squad. Shubman Gill is set to captain the national side on Zimbabwean soil.

New Faces In Zimbabwe

Sunrisers batter Abhishek Sharma who lit up the season with his prolific batting in the IPL season has found a place in the squad. Rajasthan Royals player Riyan Parag too finds a spot after scoring 573 runs in 16 games in the IPL.

Dhruv Jurel had a good test series against England he won a close game for his country at Ranchi along with Gill. Jurel though had a poor IPL season mostly due to the form of the top-order batters. However, due to his past record, he has found a place.

All-rounder Nitish Reddy also features in the squad list. With India having a shortage of fast bowling All-Rounders Nitish Reddy can fill in with both bat and ball. Reddy had a good season with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Indian Squad for Zimbabwe Tour

Shubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande.

Tushar Deshpande, too finds a spot, The Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai pacer had a good IPL season 2024.

The remainder of the squad sees familiar faces who have been in the Indian setup in the last 2-3 years. Sanju Samson is the first-choice keeper with Jurel being a backup option. Ruturaj Gaikwad too makes the cut. It will be tempting to see where he bats.

Khaleel Ahmed is set for a comeback, the left-arm seamer is currently traveling as a reserve with the Indian Squad in the T20 World Cup. Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan also make a return after being snubbed from the World Cup squad. Among the specialist spinners Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi Make the cut.

The tour kicks off on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, which will also host the remaining four matches over the next 8 days.
