Shakib Al Hasan Faces Charges For Murder Amid Chaos In Bangladesh

Former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is currently playing a series in Pakistan.

A major setback for Bangladesh's star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan who is charged with murder and is among the 156 people accused in the murder of a guy named Mohammad Rubel of Dhaka during the violent student protests.

Rubel was a garment worker by profession, he was shot on August 7th during the protests.

victim's father Rafiqul Islam filed a case against 154 Awami leaders at the Abador police station on August 22. In his complaint, he also named Shakib Al Hasan and the Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Mrs. Sheikh Hasina as suspects.

Besides them, another 400-500 unnamed people were also accused in the case.

according to the statement given by the victim's father, Rubel had joined the peaceful protest, on August 5.

On the orders of former PM Sheikh Hasina few unidentified people opened fire on the crowd and in the process, Rubel got shot in the chest, he also suffered injuries which ultimately led to his demise.

Shakib is currently playing a test series in Pakistan, he is ranked as the 28th accused in the FIR.

Shakib was an elected MP from the Magura-2 constituency, winning the last general elections for Awami League, but has not returned to his homeland ever since a few Awami League leaders including former PM Sheikh Hasina fled the country. Bangladesh is currently being run by an interim government led by Laureate Muhammad Yunus.

The newly appointed president of Bangladesh Cricket Board Faruque Ahmed stated that the board will have to take the call on Shakib's future if he is not available for the preparation camps, as his name was there in the list before he flew to Pakistan to play the Test series.
