Whenever people used to think about an opener the instant thought in their mind would be either a Virender Sehwag or a Rohit Sharma. But in recent years though that perception has seen a change with people now relating it more to Shafali Verma.
The Youngster has achieved many milestones at a very young age, an U19 World Cup winner, a young Shafali made her debut as a 15-year-old, she didn't start off well but her immense confidence ensured that the coach, captain, and selectors saw a spark in her abilities.
Shafali is an aggressive opener naturally with this gift of timing of hers, she can lace as many boundaries as she wants, the pocket dynamo has many shots in her willow, and she is known for her famous pull shot and a booming cover drive through the cover region.
In today's knock too Shafali took no time to get going, as she smashed the fastest double ton in women's test cricket, her knock comprised 23 fours and 8 gigantic maximums.
Playing just her fifth test she achieved this feat, smashing her maiden double ton, in the process she also broke Annabel Sutherland's record, Sutherland scored a double ton in 248 balls against South Africa earlier this year.
Shafali narrowly missed out on breaching former Indian captain Mithali Raj's record by just 9 runs.
Her fellow Opener Smriti Mandhana too smashed a brilliant 149 to ensure India breached the 500-run mark on the very first itself.
