The Second World Test Championship cycle test between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been shifted to Rawalpindi from Karachi. This change has been made due to the deployment of construction equipment present in the stadium. The venue is running on a tight redevelopment schedule as Karachi prepares itself for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025.
"We have been advised by the construction experts, that they have certain timelines to ready the venue, while the work can go on during the playing hours the noise during the construction and the dirt can affect the health of the players and other important personnel," PCB said.
"Given the point that the repairs and construction work in the stadium has to be uninterrupted as the venue is going to be one of the hosts for the Champions Trophy, so after reviewing the situation with all the important stakeholders, it has been decided that both the games now will be played in Rawalpindi."
Later in October England is set to tour Pakistan, and Karachi is the designated host for the 2nd test there as well, till now the status of that game remains under wraps.
"At this point, we do not prefer to talk about the second test in Karachi against England from 15-19 October, we are working with the architecture and construction department, ensuring the safe and smooth conduct of the match, while also keeping the English Cricket Board in the loop," PCB added.
The Pakistan vs Bangladesh test series is set to kick off on August 21, while the second test which is now shifted to Rawalpindi will be played from August 30.
