Recently, the Nepalese leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane created history in the cricket world. Lamichhane reached the 100 wickets club in T20 Internationals remarkably as the second-fastest bowler on 17 June of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Bangladesh series.
After achieving this magnificent feat he now ranks behind Afghan Cricketer Rashid Kahn who picked 100 wickets in 53 matches having played 54 T20I matches. However, the fact that Lamichhane is the first cricket player from Nepal to achieve this feat, makes this even more amazing.
Bowling for the home team at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, Lamichhane fared better against the Bangladeshi batsmen. In bowling, he began a record for himself by forcing Tanzim Hasan Sakib and then Jaker Ali Anik. His spin was causing some trouble to the Bangladeshi hitters, Nepal again bundled them out for a paltry 106.
This was because of the bowling effort of Lamichhane that helped Nepal to perform well. Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Rohit Paudel got two wickets each but it was Lamichhane who bowled clinically as a spinner and exposed the Bangladeshi batting unit.
This added a new chapter to Nepalese cricket and it put the nation on the map of the countries that play cricket. Lamichhane’s bio is very inspiring and glimpses from his cricketing journey can be helpful to young cricketers not only in Nepal but anywhere in the world.
