Former Sri Lankan Batter Sanath Jayasurya has been named as the interim head coach for the Sri Lankan Men's Cricket team following the departure of former Head Coach Chris Silverwood.
The Sri Lankan board announced this development in an official press release. Jayasuriya will be the head coach till the England series in September.
This appointment comes on the back of a series of resignations from the previous coaching personnel of Sri Lanka. Guys Like Mahela Jayawardene who was the consultant coach of the team resigned along with former Head coach Chris Silverwood.
The reason for these resignations is that Sri Lanka had a below-par T20 World Cup campaign where they bowed out of the tournament in the group stage itself.
Jayasuriya will start his Sri Lanka coaching in the series against India which is set to begin from July 27. The Indian team will come to Island shores to play 3 ODI's and as many T20Is.
SLC CEO Ashley De Silva lauded Jayasuriya and was confident that Sri Lanka would do well under his coaching.
