It's been a great journey, Coach! Thank you for everything 💙❤️ pic.twitter.com/dnIE5QY6ac
Ponting held the role for the last 7 seasons, under him the team went into their maiden finals in 2020, and they qualified for the playoffs thrice under Ponting in 2019, 2020, and 2021. The capital city narrowly missed out on qualifications in 2022 and 2024.
The team also endured two poor seasons in 2018 when Ponting took charge finishing last and in 2023 when regular skipper Rishabh Pant was away with an injury and David Warner had to step in. Under Warner Delhi just managed to avoid the wooden spoon to finish 9th in the points table.
The franchise hasn't announced his successor as yet, however, it is believed that former Indian captain and current director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, Mr. Sourav Ganguly is set to become the new coach of Delhi Capitals.
