The Rangpur Riders are surrounded by uncertainty in the inaugural final of the Global Super League as the Bangladesh Cricket board has now asked the Rangpur Riders to release three players who are selected to play the 3-match ODI series against West Indies. Namely- Afif Hossain, Soumya Sarkar & Rishad Hossain have got a call-up for the ODI series against West Indies, starting from December 8th at St. Lucia.
Rangpur Riders went on to beat the Lahore Qalandars by 23 runs DLS method due to rain interruptions in the semi-final to book a ticket for the grand finale, where they are to face Victoria in the finals.
The board had allowed the local players to participate in the tournament till the group stages and has now asked the franchise to release the trio who were called up to play the 3-0 match ODI series against the West Indies.
The BCB has insisted that the players prioritize the national camp over the GSL final. The final was planned in such a way that it does not overlap the Bangladesh series.
This makes it very difficult for the Riders to make an 11 as Mohammad Saifuddin is already ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
According to the laws of the tournament, each team needs to field at least 7 local cricketers in their teams. The current situation has made it difficult for the Rangpur Riders to field an XI for the finals.
"If they remain firm on their decision then it will be difficult for Rangpur to field an 11 in the finals, & will have to forfeit the final without even stepping onto the field, such an incident will ruin the reputation of Bangladesh Cricket at the global cricketing stage as it is very very rare to miss a final due to player shortage"
"Moreover in the GSL the Rangpur Riders is not representing themselves but also the entire nation of Bangladesh, a decision like this will spread a healthy message towards the cricket enthusiast "a Rangpur Riders statement read.
