The Indian Premier League lit up wonderfully when Brendon McCullum slammed a magnificent 158 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in what was the first ever match played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
Since then, about 110 centuries have been hit by 58 different individuals & only 26 of them have managed to hit the three-figure mark multiple times.
India & RCB's talismanic batter Virat Kohli holds the record with most centuries in the IPL (8) to his name with Jos Buttler coming close to match his tally with 7 centuries. On that note, let's have a look at the list of players with most centuries in IPL history.
The talismanic batter from RCB, Virat Kohli, tops the list in terms of players with the most centuries in IPL history. Kohli, a regular player from the inaugural season, slammed his first IPL ton(100 off 73) against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016, unfortunately in a losing cause. The star batter went on to score three more centuries in that season to take his tally to 4 IPL tons in that season, scoring centuries against the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (108*), twice against the Gujarat Lions (109) & one against Punjab Kings(113 off 50) which is also his highest IPL score.
Kohli has slammed the most runs in IPL history with 8606 runs at an average of 39.65 & at a strike rate of 132.97 in 264 matches.
Jos Buttler is one of the most successful overseas players in the IPL after having made his IPL debut in 2016. Buttler represented the Mumbai Indians in the IPL initially but scored his first IPL ton for the 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals, in the year 2021, smashing a brilliant ton (124 off 64 balls) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at New Delhi. Buttler has scored all his 7 IPL tons for the Rajasthan Royals. Buttler has played 121 IPL matches, scoring 4120 runs at an average of 40 & at a strike rate of 149.38.
The 'Universe Boss', aka Chris Gayle, features third in the list with 6 IPL tons to his name, having made his debut in 2009 for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Gayle also holds the record for the fastest hundred in the IPL (100 of 30 Balls) against Pune Warriors. The West Indian legend didn't stop here; he also went on to register the highest individual score in the IPL (175* off 66 balls) in IPL 2013. Gayle played 142 IPL matches, scoring close to 5000 IPL runs (4965) at an average of 39.72 & at a strike rate of 148.96.
KL Rahul is the only one in this list to have played for 5 IPL teams. Rahul made his IPL debut in 2013 playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahul found the majority of his success as a batter in 2018 playing for the Punjab Kings, as he scored his highest IPL score of 132* against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2020. Rahul also scored the then fastest fifty (50 off 14 balls) in 2018. Rahul recently smashed a brilliant ton against the Gujarat Titans while representing the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, scoring an unbeaten 112* off 60 balls to record his fifth IPL ton.
