The IPL auctions are just 5 days away and plenty of players will be going under the hammer to find their new home. For some, it'll be a new vibe while for some it could prove to be a homecoming. After RCB, it's time to discuss another side that has the potential but hasn't had the trophy in their cabinet as yet.
Today, we'll talk about the Delhi Capitals who surprisingly released their captain Rishabh Pant ahead of the mega auctions. Delhi Though, still has the option of retaining their skipper back via the Right To Match Card (RTM).
Who Will Lead Delhi? Who's going to stem the flow of poor campaigns? on that note let's have a look at the probable targets for Delhi Capitals at the auction.
One of the most hyped talks going around the corner is that the former Capitals player & captain Shreyas Iyer is on the target list for the Capitals. Iyer, who joined the Delhi side as an uncapped player remained with the side for a long period of 7 years before he was let go ahead of the 2022 mega auctions. Iyer is the current IPL-winning captain, with Pant not retained, Iyer could be the primary candidate to lead his old side once again.
With Abhishek Porel being one of the openers for DC in the last season, the Capitals think-tank will be hoping to get an experienced campaigner to partner Porel as DC hasn't had the best opening partnerships until this season. With Jake Fraser McGurk also released by DC, England's Jos Buttler can be the ideal target for the Delhi-based franchise to get their hands on.
Nitish Rana, the local boy could beef up the middle order of Delhi Capitals & can come at a decent price too. Rana, apart from his batting can also chip in with his part-time off-spinners when needed.
Another former Delhi Capitals player Mohammed Shami can be seen wearing the blue & red of Delhi. Shami missed the last season of IPL due to injury. With Delhi releasing Mukesh Kumar, their best death bowler of the season last year, Shami could be on GMR-Group's radar to handle pace bowling duties at DC.
One of the best steal options in a high-octane mega auction can be the Tamil Nadu All-Rounder Washington Sundar. Sundar has had a great time with the men's side in the recent red ball series against New Zealand, before that Sundar also played decently in the tour of Sri Lanka. The Delhi team is also looking for a finisher in place of Lalit Yadav who can tonk the ball in the death overs & can also provide wickets upfront in the powerplay.
Sundar can act as a balm to the lower batting order of Delhi that has been found wanting in the recent years of IPL so far.
