The Hosts Pakistan and the visitors Bangladesh have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first test at Rawalpindi, which Bangladesh won by 10 wickets and also creating history.
Pakistan team was found six overs short of the over-rate and hence were docked 6 WTC points along with a 30% match fee. Bangladesh was found 3 overs short and was docked 3 WTC points and a 15% match fee. This is Bangladesh's first penalty in this cycle, while Pakistan was found wanting for the same reason against Australia at Perth last year.
According to article 2,22 of the ICC's code of conduct which is related to slow over-rate offenses, players are fined 5 % of their match fees for their team's failure to bowl the allotted overs in time. According to WTC Playing Conditions article 16.11.2, a side penalized 1 point for being an over-short. Both Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the sanctions levied on match referee Ranjan Madugalle.
Bangladeshi All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10% of his match fee and was also handed a demerit point, for a level 1 breach of the code of conduct in article 2.9, which related to throwing any equipment near or towards the player ( for example ball, water bottle, gloves etc,)
The incident took place in the 33rd of the innings when Shakib threw a ball towards Pakistani Keeper batter Muhammad Rizwan in an aggressive way as he was taking time to get ready to face the ball. Shakib has accepted the sanction. This was his first offense in 24 months.
On-field umpires Richard Kettleborogh, Adrian Holdstock, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz levied the charges.
