The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a tournament ruled by the batters throughout the season, from the beautiful cover drives to those gigantic sixes hitting the roof. However, there are incidents when players have struggled to time the ball. On that note, we'll discuss the players with the slowest innings in the history of the IPL.
A name that may send shockwaves around the cricketing globe. Dhoni, who's one of the best in the business when it comes to taking down the bowlers, was at the receiving end when he played for the now-defunct Rising Pune SuperGiant (RPS) against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Dhoni walked to the crease in the 11th over, the spin trial from Gautam Gambhir was too hot to handle for the then RPS skipper. Dhoni managed to score these runs at a lowly strike rate of 36.36.
Another keeper-batter enters the list, Manvinder Bisla achieved this unwanted record in the 2011 edition when Kolkata Knight Riders played against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. While chasing a modest total of 84 set by the Royals, Bisla found the going tough as he struggled to time the ball before he was eventually dismissed by the late Shane Warne for a lowly score of 9 off 22 balls. KKR did manage to win the game in 13 overs, but it was a dismal day for Bisla.
The dashing left-handed West Indian batter, aka 'The Universe Boss', Chris Gayle, features in this unwanted list. The man who used to smash the small white rounded object into the orbit was struggling to time the ball against the Mumbai Indians in an IPL game in 2015. In a steep chase of 210, Gayle just managed to score 10 runs off 24 at a modest strike rate of 41. Gayle's slow knock resulted in RCB going on to lose that game by 18 runs.
One of the emerging stars in the IPL cricket, Ayush Badoni, too played a slow knock of 23 runs in just 18 balls. Badoni failed to hit a single boundary in his knock & ensured that it was one of his poor knocks in IPL history.
Young Indian pocket dynamo Ishan Kishan, too, is featured in this unwanted list of slowest IPL innings. Kishan recorded his first slowest innings in the IPL against the Punjab Kings when he scored 31 runs off 28 balls in the 2020 edition, while his second innings was more painful as he scored a slowish 32 off 36 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last year.
