Morne Morkel Roped In As Bowling Coach For Team India

Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel had previously worked with Gambhir in the IPL.

Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed the bowling coach of the Indian Cricket Team. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed the news.

Morkel couldn't join the team on their recent tour of Sri Lanka due to personal issues. NCA Member Sairaj Bahutule was the bowling coach for six white-ball games. Morkel will take up the coaching duties in India's next assignment which is against Bangladesh at home comprising 2 Tests and 3 T20Is.

Morkel's contract will start on September 1, former South African fast bowler's appointment was made on the recommendation of Gautam Gambhir, with whom he shares a great camaraderie.

Both Gambhir and Morkel have worked together at the Lucknow Supergiants till last year. This season Gambhir left LSG to join Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor and Andy Flower left Lucknow to join RCB, whereas Morkel remained at LSG under the new head coach Justin Langer.

Both Gambhir and Morkel have also played together with each other when they used to play for KKR a few seasons ago.

The Indian Senior Men's Team coaching staff boasts of Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach, accompanied by Abhishek Nayar and former Dutch Batter Ryan Tendoeschate, while T Dilip had retained his spot who was a part of the previous coaching regime under Rahul Dravid.
