The Search For The Personnel Continues

Former South African speedster Morne Morkel is in the line for a role in the Indian setup, particularly as a bowling coach. This demand was made by the current head coach Gautam Gambhir. Morkel was the bowling coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team last year during the ODI World Cup in India.

He announced his resignation even before his tenure could come to an end, this was right after Pakistan was knocked out of the race for a place in the Semi-Finals.

It is understood that Gambhir and Morkel share good terms with each other, both were working together for the IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants in the capacity of Mentor and Bowling coach respectively.

Last Year, Gambhir left Lucknow Supergiants to join Kolkata Knight Riders to join them as a mentor a post he previously held with LSG. Meanwhile, Morkel continued to work under the newly appointed head coach Justin Langer.

Morkel is a seasoned campaigner both on and off the field, he bid adieu to the game in 2018. He then worked as coach cum player in Australia after getting their citizenship, Morkel previously played under Gambhir's leadership in Kolkata Knight Riders.

Many names have come up in the last few days with Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Vinay Kumar all in the queue, BCCI is in talks with Zaheer Khan to take up the role. Earlier former Indian All-Rounder Irfan Pathan had turned the role of Bowling Coach. A formal announcement from the BCCI is awaited soon.
