The Pakistan Cricket Team has appointed Mike Hesson as their head coach for Pakistan's White-ball team. The New Zealander is all set to take charge from May 26; the extent of his contract is not known yet.
The Kiwi has a brilliant track record as a coach. Hesson was the head coach of the New Zealand Men's cricket team from 2012-18. In this period, New Zealand achieved immense success. He also had a good time as a coach with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2019-23. The kiwi coach is currently the head coach of Islamabad United who won the 2024 edition of PSL.
Hesson's first assignment will be the 5-match T20I against Bangladesh. The dates for the tour are likely to change. He is set to replace Aaqib Javed, who was appointed as the Interim head coach after Gary Kirsten resigned from his post after just months of appointment.
If the latest reports are concerned, Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the high-performance director & he is expected to have a say in the selection panel. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi praised Hesson & hoped he could revive Pakistan's glory once again in International Cricket.
"I'm pleased to announce Mike Hesson as the head coach of the white ball teams of Pakistan. we're excited to welcome Hesson & achieve some good results under him," said Naqvi through the PCB press release.
"Mike brings a plethora of experience with him, he has a proven track record of building competitive sides, we look forward to working with him & making Pakistan a dominant force in white ball cricket!"
