Who Is Vignesh Puthur and How He Began Playing Cricket

Vignesh Puthur was born on 2 March 2001 in Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, Kerala. His cricketing journey started when he was 11 years old. Local club cricketer Mohammed Sherif inspired Vignesh, and he learned left-arm wrist spin, an unusual and complex skill in the game of cricket.

Vignesh Puthur comes from an average family, his father, Sunil Kumar who was an auto driver, and his mother KP Bindu, was a homemaker. Though poor, the family encouraged him to play cricket. Vignesh managed the double of sporting prowess and scholarly endeavor and currently has a master's in literature at PTM Government College at Perinthalmanna, and it is an indication that he will not only progress as a man but also carry his cricket ambition through.

Domestic Cricket and Kerala Cricket League

Vignesh played for Alleppey Ripples during the first Kerala Cricket League (KCL) competition in September 2024. Though he registered three wickets from two games, his bowling action attracted talent scouts attention. He also played for Alleppey Ripples, among others, such as Jolly Rovers Perinthalmanna, in domestic league competitions.

Vignesh Puthur Mumbai Indians Contract for IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians, known for identifying and developing young talent, were impressed with Vignesh's skills. He was subjected to different trials with MI, where he bowled to seasoned players like Hardik Pandya under coach Mahela Jayawardene. His performance led MI to acquire his services for INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 auction.
