Matthew Mott has stepped from his position as the head coach of the England Men's Cricket Team effective immediately, Assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will take charge.
Mott took the reigns from Chris Silverwood as a part of the split coaching setup, Mott achieved great success in his first year as a coach when England ended up as the winners of the T20 World Cup in 2022 in Australia. England during the tenure of Mott also won a series against New Zealand, Australia, and others.
But it was the ODI World Cup in India which was the lowest point in Mott's tenure where England finished 7th in the tournament out of 10 teams, they narrowly managed to qualify for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025.
England reached the Semi-Finals of the tournament in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. England played India in the Semi-Finals and lost to them by 68 runs. India further went on to win the tournament.
After playing 3 ICC events in a year I feel this is the right time for the England Cricket Team to look in a new direction. With a lot of white-ball cricket coming up starting from the champions trophy the players must be prepared and well-oiled. It is a tough pill to swallow, but we also have to look at the future of the English White Ball Cricket
I feel very proud to have coached the England Men's Cricket Team, it has been a wonderful journey with the lads, and more so when we won the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. I would like to thank the players, and management for their support all these years and for making a memorable journey for me, I leave with many good friendships behind, Mott said
In the end, I would like to thank the England fans, the Barmy Army who have always been the 12th man of the side and have traveled all the way to the tours to extend their support. Mott Concluded
