Marcus Stoinis Announces Retirement From ODI Cricket

Stoinis decided to retire with immediate effect just before the ICC Champions Trophy

Star Australian All-Rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from the ODI format effective immediately. Stoinis represented Australia in 71 ODI's after making his debut in way back in 2015. Stoinis stated that he wants to focus on the T20I format to prolong his cricket career. Stoinis was also named in the Champions Trophy squad but will now be replaced.

"Playing ODI Cricket for my country is one of the highlights of my career, its been an incredible journey wearing the green & gold all these years, I'll cherish all these moments," Stoinis said.
"This was not at all an easy decision for me to make, but I think this is just the right time for me to focus on the next phase of my cricket career, I've got a great rapport with Andrew McDonald, he's given me immense support" he added.

Stoinis's career-best effort with the bat came in just his second outing - an unbeaten 146 against New Zealand in Auckland in 2017. Stoinis last played an ODI for Australia against Pakistan in November last year. Stoinis finished his ODI career with 1495 runs & 48 wickets, he was a part of the winning squad in the 2023 ODI World Cup & was also the ODI Cricketer of the year in 2018-19.

"Stoinis has been a pivotal player for us in ODI Cricket in the past decade or so, he's been a great human to have in the group, he's a natural leader and a career like his should be appreciated & celebrated," Australian men's Head Coach Andrew McDonald said.
