In the 39th match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Lockie Ferguson bowled four consecutive maidens on Monday at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, during New Zealand's match against Papua New Guinea.
Lockie Ferguson, a bowler from New Zealand, complimented Brian Lara Stadium's bowling conditions following his record 4-4-0-3 performance against Papua New Guinea in the T20 World Cup. The early elimination from the competition was frustrating, though. Ferguson became only the second bowler in T20I history to deliver 24 dot balls without giving up a run, and his performance was nothing short of spectacular as he recorded the most economical bowling numbers in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Lockie Ferguson, a member of the New Zealand team, was brought on during PNG's fifth over of the innings after Kane Williamson decided to bowl. When PNG batters faced out against New Zealand, a formidable opponent, Fergusson proved to be a significant barrier.
1) Lockie Ferguson (NZ) - 4 maidens vs PNG, 2024
2) Saad Bin Zafar (CAN) - 4 maidens vs Panama, 2021
3) George Sesay (Sierra Leone) - 3 maidens vs Mall, 2023
4) Nopphon Senamontree (Thailand) - 3 maidens vs Maldives, 2024
4️⃣ overs. 4️⃣ maidens.

I enjoy representing New Zealand, you know. I'm simply really sad about how we were eliminated. However, I also had a great time playing with these people. Naturally, it is Boulty's (Trent Boult) final game. Though it's going to be difficult to lose him to the group, it's been a pleasure to sort of follow him in every game throughout his amazing career. I thus want the best for him," he remarked.
When Ferguson looked back on the game, he saw how difficult the wicket was. "Well, not a single run today. Well, this is a difficult wicket to bat on. In a video that the ICC shared on social media, he stated, "It's good to have a wicket like that for a change, especially after the IPL, where there were a lot of runs scored."
As the squad said goodbye to a mainstay of New Zealand cricket, Boult, Ferguson's words captured the team's mixed emotions. It's a difficult one. We will be taking a few months off from each other as a team. You'll miss your excellent friends, of course, but you should also look forward to getting in touch with them later this year," he remarked.
