Ravichandran Ashwin is only the second Indian in this elite list of bowlers behind another legend Anil Kumble who took 619 wickets. Before his retirement, Ashwin was the leading wicket-taker in tests among active cricketers.
The veteran spinners have not only left behind a legacy but have set a benchmark for the upcoming generations to fill in the shoes of a legend like R Ashwin. Ashwin played a key role for India in the test format from 2014-19 to help them reach the top spot in test rankings.
Ashwin's brilliance is unparalleled, he has delivered match-winning performances in and outside India consistently in the last decade or so. Apart from his bowling, Ashwin also proved to be a match-winner with the bat as his 6 test centuries & 14 fifties also bailed India out from tricky positions.
Ashwin's rumors of retirement began making the rounds when he was captured alongside Virat Kohli involved in an emotional chat & later sharing a warm hug. Ashwin was then involved in a chat with his counterpart Nathan Lyon during the rain break. Former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar hinted about the same during the live commentary, a speculation Ashwin later confirmed himself.
Ashwin will be playing at the domestic level & the franchise cricket, he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL Auctions recently for a whopping prize tag of 9.75 Crores, marking his Chennai return after 9 long years.
