"an initial medical assessment was made & it was found that he would not be able to fit enough to take further part in the tournament, given the short nature of the tournament it was apt to send Lockie back home & start with his rehabilitation" the release further said.
Ferguson's recovery timeline remains uncertain, and his participation in IPL 2025 is in doubt. The Punjab Kings player is in a race against time to be fit for the mega T20 event. The Punjab Kings open their IPL 2025 campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 25th.
"we're extremely disappointed for Lockie, he was really looking forward to representing the Kiwi side in the champions trophy, Lockie has been a leader for our bowling attack over the years, and we hope to see him come back soon & bowling to his fullest."
Ferguson's injury has opened the doors for Kyle Jamieson who's making a comeback after being on the sidelines for 10 months due to a stress fracture in the back. Jamieson last donned the Kiwi jersey in February last year. Jamieson made an impressive comeback into the domestic cricket picking up join highest 14 wickets in the tournament for Canterbury Kings who reached the finals of the Super Smash earlier this year.
"Kyle brings plenty of pace & bounce, he can bat too lower down the order, he was brilliant in the recently concluded super smash, and he's been bowling well in the domestic circuit back home."
" He has been loading up well in the last couple of months, he's been doing good even in the 50-over domestic tournament (Ford Tournament) giving him ample overs under his belt, he's raring to go at full tilt" Stead Quipped
Ferguson is the second New Zealand pacer to be ruled out of the tournament after Ben Sears, who was replaced by Jacob Duffy.
