In the inaugural season, Pakistani pacer Sohail Tanveer won the purple cap representing the Rajasthan Royals Tanveer picked up 22 wickets in 11 matches helping the Royals win the title.
In the second season in 2009, RP Singh was the holder of the purple cap. Singh's impressive performance in 16 matches, he scalped 23 wickets to help the Deccan Chargers win the title.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar he is the only player to have won the purple cap consecutive times in 2016 & 2017. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo (2013 & 2015) & Harshal Patel (2021 & 2024) have also won the purple cap twice
