The Paris Olympics is nearing its culmination, some got their prizes while some got an agonizing finish. The most disheartening outcome in an Olympics is the heartbreaking 4th place finish.
India has been a victim of these agonizing 4th place finishes in the previous Summer Olympics too with many veterans like Milkha Singh and PT Usha missing their marks by the barest of margins.
In this edition of the Olympics too the luck was against the Indian contingent, which resulted in more heartbreaks in Paris.
In This Article, we will discuss about 5 such players who missed their mark
Manu Bhaker had a great opportunity to bag another Bronze medal having already bagged a couple. Still, a gut-wrenching loss to Hungary's Veronica Major ended her hopes of securing a third medal for the nation. At the end of the final round, both Bhaker and Veronica had a tie of 28 points each. But in the shoot of round Bhaker hit three shots out of 5 while her counterpart hit 4, which ended Bhaker's hopes for securing a treble for her nation.
Despite all the heartbreaks, Bhaker returns with 2 Bronze Medals in her kitty.
Vinesh Phogat is probably the most heartbreaking story ever one would know, she was on a dream run beating opposition one after the other, and she went on to beat former champion Yui Susaki of Japan by a 3-2 scoreline a big win. She then went on to beat Ukraine's Ostava Livach. In the end, she won over Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez by 5-0.
Just when the country started to believe that another medal probably the first gold was coming home, Phogat got one of the biggest setbacks of her life, as she was disqualified from the competition due to being overweight by 100 grams on the matchday.
One of the best in the business, Lakshya Sen too had a tough time at the Olympics, he started the campaign well topping his group stages with a win. He won the Pre Quarter Final round over fellow Indian HS Prannoy winning both sets comfortably by a margin of 21-12 and 21-6.
Sen registered a come-from-behind win against Taipei Chou- Tien- Chien to book a spot for the semis. In the semi-finals, Sen started off well but eventually went down to Denmark's Viktor Axelsen. Sen had a great start in his Bronze Medal match too but he floundered away a golden opportunity to book a medal as he lost the game to Malaysia's Lee Zil Jia.
Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara had a dream run in the Archery event as they beat Indonesia by a scoreline of 5-1 in the round of 16 to advance into the quarter-finals. They then went on to beat Spain in the quarter-finals by a scoreline of 5-3.
The duo went down to South Korea in the semis by 6-2. The Indian contingent then played a bronze medal match against the USA's duo of Casey Kaufhold and Brady Ellison, where India's hopes to achieve a medal were dashed.
The Indian contingent had a golden opportunity to get a medal when the duo of Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka booked their place in the Bronze Medal against China.
But unfortunately in the final, the duo went down to China's Yiting Jiang and Jianlin Lyu. The Indian duo scored 43, which was just one shy of China's score of 44.
