When Indian Players Were Abused By Crowd

Cricket is a gentleman's game as it is often called by people, to some extent it's true also, we've seen numerous times teams showing sportsman spirit towards each other, we've also seen the crowds to applauding both their home teams & the opponent teams.

But, there have been many instances when the crowd was hostile especially for the Indian players from throwing corks to racial abuses in Australia, ensuring the so-called gentleman's game was framed in a bad way. In this article, we will talk about the instances where Indian Players were abused by crowds

Indian Players Abused By Crowd

1. Mohammad Siraj-

Star Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has been a victim of racial abuse, the latest case being the ongoing test match against Bangladesh at home. According to reports Siraj was abused by a Bangladeshi fan sitting in the stadium when the fast bowler was fielding at the third-man region.

Previously Siraj was racially abused in Australia in the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020-21. Some Drunk Australian fans mocked him by calling 'Brown Dog' near the boundary line in the Sydney test. This resulted in the match getting interrupted for a brief period.

2. KL Rahul

KL Rahul comes second on our list of Indian players abused by crowds, it was during India's tour of England in 2021 when some England fans threw Corks on KL Rahul in the Lord's test, leading to flack from the Indian board.

3. Virat Kohli

Even the Former Indian captain and star Cricketer Virat Kohli was also subjected to racial abuse by a hostile Australian crowd in 2012. Kohli was fielding near the boundary line when a few Aussie supporters abused Kohli. The youngster responded to the abuses by gesturing a middle finger towards the crowd.

4. Hardik Pandya

The current skipper of Mumbai Indians Hardik Pandya was subjected to a lot of verbal abuse by the Indian crowd earlier this year in the IPL. Pandya faced a lot of boos at Wankhede, the home of Mumbai Indians, Pandya was severely booed at Ahmedabad & Hyderabad.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

Star India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has also been a victim of racial abuse. Bumrah & Siraj were hurled with foul language and racial abuse in the 3rd Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2020.

Racial abuse of any kind verbal or physical always impacts the game negatively, and the spirit of this beautiful game gets compromised. The ICC along with the other governing bodies has ensured to make strict laws regarding these kind of acts.
