Amidst the growing tensions between India & Pakistan at the border, the 58th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played between the Punjab Kings & Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, the match was called off midway due to escalations. The crowd was evacuated from the ground, as the venue is close to the border. The BCCI decided to suspend the IPL with immediate effect.
The BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated to India Today, that player safety & safety of the crowd is their first preference; they'll cooperate with the Government's directives to plan further course of action.
"Safety of the players & spectators is one of our top priorities & we'll do anything to keep the best interest of the nation, we'll take a call looking at the situation & cooperate with the Government" Saikia stated.
On Thursday, Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks on multiple regions in India, including Jammu, Rajasthan, and Punjab. India's defence forces successfully intercepted all threats, preventing major damage and casualties. This escalation followed India’s precision strikes a day earlier on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
