On expected lines, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed its new president with Faruque Ahmed taking the reins from Nazmul Hasan who had held this post for 14 years. This news was confirmed by the BCB umpires community to Cricbuzz.

There were numerous reports of Nazmul Hasan wanting to quit as the President of BCB after he fled the country and took asylum in London.

More than 450 people have lost their lives in the student-led protest against the Sheikh Hasina-led government, Hasina eventually resigned from her post and left the country on August 5.

Faruque Ahmed has represented Bangladesh in 7 ODIs. Previously he had been appointed as the chief selector in the panel from 2003-2007 and 2013-2016. He resigned from his post midway through his tenure as he was not ready to accept that the selection panel was expanding to a three-member committee.

Bangladesh is currently playing Pakistan in an away tour comprising two test matches set to be played at Rawalpindi.
