Ace Indian All-Rounder Deepti Sharma has been appointed as the captain of the UP Warriorz team for this year's Women's Premier League (WPL) replacing Alyssa Healy at the helm after she was advised rest after suffering from a stress reaction, forcing her to skip the tournament completely.

Deepti Sharma has been a part of the franchise since the inaugural edition, she's been the second-highest wicket-taker for the team scalping 19 wickets in 17 matches while also scoring 385 runs out of which 295 came last year when she was named the MVP. During her brilliant run last year she also became the first Indian to pick up a hat-trick in the WPL.

The 27-year-old, who is India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, hails from Uttar Pradesh & she becomes the first player to lead her home franchise in their home venue with the tournament expanding up to four venues this season (Bengaluru, Lucknow, Vadodara & Mumbai). The UP Warriorz kickstart their campaign against the Gujarat Giants on Feb 16 at Vadodara. While they'll be playing their first home game on March 3 against the same opposition.

However, the Warriorz will miss the services of Healy, a premier women's batter of this generation. In the WPL she has made 428 runs in 17 matches.

Warriorz has called up West Indies all-rounder Chinnelle Henry as Healy's replacement for the season.
