The ICC Champions Trophy often called the 'Mini World Cup' was launched for the first time in the year 1998 by the International Cricket Council(ICC). At first, the tournament was known by the form of ICC knockout. This tournament was organized to generate funds for the game and to give those teams an opportunity who didn't had a test status. The tournament was held once every four years similar to the 50-over World Cup.
The tournament was first held in Bangladesh while the second edition of the competition was held in Kenya. Due to its commercial success big nations like India & England also got the opportunity to host the mega event. In 2009 it was decided that only top 8 ODI ranked teams would compete for the trophy. The cut-off rankings for the tournament were set 6 months prior to the tournament.
In 2017 the tournament was discontinued by the ICC to focus on having just one showpiece event for each format. However, the ICC soon overturned their decision and announced the inclusion of CT in 2021 while also announcing the hosts of CT 2025 & 29 (Pakistan & India).
Now, Let's have a look at the former champions of this elusive title that will be finally up for grabs after 8 long years.
