Chris Silverwood has resigned from his post as the Head Coach of the Sri Lankan Men's Cricket team in the aftermath of a poor T20 World Cup campaign in West Indies and USA. The Englishman cited 'personal reasons' as the reason for his departure.

Silverwood Speaks

"Being an International coach takes a toll on your body, you're away from your family for a long period, I've had conversations back home with my family, this prompted me to take a call and I've now decided that I'll be returning home"
"Being the head coach of the Sri Lankan Cricket team is an honor for me, I'll miss being around the group, but I'm also taking some good memories along with me back home"

Silverwood stepped down from his post right after when former Lankan Batting legend Mahela Jayawardene also announced that he wouldn't be continuing as the consultant coach of the team.

Chris Silverwood joined the Lankan Staff after his stint was over with England, where his side conceded the Ashes to Australia in an away series. Silverwood in no time was standing in the Lankan shirt in 2022.

Under Silverwood Sri Lanka finally found some stability, as they lifted the Asia Cup in 2022. Players like Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, and many more got chances under the Silverwood-led panel.

Sri Lanka also won a home ODI series against Australia during those times when Sri Lanka as a nation was suffering from the economic crisis.

Sri Lanka finished as the runners-up in the 2023 Asia Cup, but they had two poor World Cup Tournaments.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup Sri Lanka finished 9th on the points table which also ensured that they failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025 to be hosted by Pakistan.

In the recently concluded T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA, Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the Super 8s.
