A Shankar and ES Jairam, the secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, have handed over their resignations in the aftermath of the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4 during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Indian Premier League 2025 victory celebrations.
The KSCA officials announced their respective resignations on Friday (June 6) on grounds of moral responsibility for the tragic incident in which 11 people died and more than 50 were reportedly injured.
In a press note released on Saturday, and signed by the duo, they wrote,
"This is due to unforeseen circumstances that have unfolded in the last few days, though our role was minimal in this situation, but based on moral responsibility we have decided to resign from our respective posts as treasurer & secretary in the Karnataka State Cricket Association by way of a letter dated 06.06.2025 to the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association."
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru won its first IPL title in 18 years under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. The Bengaluru-based franchise beat Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings in the finals by 6 runs at Ahmedabad. For RCB, Virat Kohli top-scored for the side with 43 runs off 35 balls.
The Bengaluru based franchise has also won a title in the Women's Premier League (WPL) becoming only the second side after Mumbai Indians to have titles in both IPL & WPL.
