Ben Stokes has been ruled out of all cricket for three months due to a left-torn hamstring. The English skipper suffered the injury during the third test against New Zealand at Hamilton which New Zealand won by 423 runs. England won the 3-match series by a 2-1 margin.
Stokes was not selected for the India series and the Champions Trophy owing to his injury. Stokes last played for England in the ODI format was during the ODI World Cup in India 2023.
Stokes has had some tough times with the injuries as he had a knee surgery in October 2023, Stokes played the ODI World Cup but, he wasn't able to perform at his full tilt, ensuring the 2019 champions had a horrendous World Cup campaign. Post the World Cup Stokes had a lengthy rehabilitation period.
In August this year, Stokes again suffered a similar injury before the Sri Lankan series. The extent of the injury was such that he was on the sidelines for the entire English summer. Stokes had also opted to sit out of the IPL 2024 to manage his workload. Stokes did return to International Cricket post the injury this year but couldn't perform at his best. Stokes didn't registered for the mega auctions too for 2025.

Heading into the Hamilton Test, he exuded confidence in his body and how he managed it:
"I've had to make the yards, its been tough for the physical side of the body for me, but getting some good overs in the last two games has made me more confident about how to go on my game".
"This is the point I got to before I pulled up my hammy again, I was bowling brilliantly during the summer, and had a setback but now I don't worry much about it, but as an individual, I do have to think about my body since I have to do some extra bit of work to pull it through again" Stokes had said.
Stokes went on to bowl a lot of overs in the same fixture and has now been laid low by a similar long-term injury. Owing to this, Stokes will miss next year's Hundred competition, which begins on July 9.
